Introduction:
Back in the Mid Seventies, I was introduced to Classical Music. I had come back from surfing one night and my room-mate put on the local Classical Music station which had on Rossini’s “William Tell Overture” Live. Because I was familiar with some of it from Cartoons and the Lone Ranger, I listened to the whole thing. I was Hooked! I began listening to that station from then on. Fast Forward to 1981. I had become familiar with Guitarists like Andres Segovia, Julian Bream, and Christopher Parkening. Imagine my surprise when I saw an endorsement for Rick Foster’s Music by Parkening himself! I hope you enjoy listening to him as much as I have.
Inspirational Guitar At Its Best was released in 1985. Like its 3 predecessors, Hymns, More Hymns, and Sacred Classic Guitar, it too came out on the Bread and Honey record label. Though this Album had come out after I sold my Christian Bookstore, I do believe I had a copy of it. Of the four Albums, this one definitely had more time and investment into its production. This is easily seen in the first three songs with its tasteful accompaniment music.
Here is a review by Joni Eareckson Tada that is an interesting description of the Album: “Jesus said, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place…’ and Rick Foster’s music can be that quiet place. For me it was high in the Sierras under a canopy of stars while listening to the delightful strains of his classical guitar. His music, tranquil and peaceful, is that quiet place.”
Though the first two Albums were titled with the word “Hymns” in it, this one and its predecessor does not. Most of the songs recorded can be found in Hymnals and a Chorus Book, but also contains the Folk Tune “I’m Just A Poor Wayfaring Stranger” and the Patriotic Song “The Stars And Stripes Forever”.
