“The Song of Songs, which is Solomon’s.” Song of Solomon 1:1
Of all the Books in the Bible, this has to be the most difficult to comment on. Whether you view it as a love song from King Solomon to his Bride, or an allegorical rendering of Christ and His Church, it is not an easy Book to draw life lessons from. One reason is the huge difference between our Culture and theirs. We don’t have the same idioms, such as using livestock or building terms (flock of goats, tower of David, etc) to describe bodily features. Nor do we live in a predominant agrarian society or in proximity to the cities and areas mentioned. But we do see the Major Theme; Love! May we husbands learn “to love our wives as Christ loved the Church” and wives learn to “be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord”.
