Read Psalm 41-45

“As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for You, O God.” Psalm 42:1

Picture an arid and desert land, barren and waste, with very little water. Now picture a deer, searching for water; mouth ajar, breathing hard in desperate need of a drink. That is how the Sons of Korah describe their souls at the beginning of this Psalm. Besides oxygen, there is nothing more valuable to sustain life than water. We can go for many days without food, but take away water, and most of us are dead within 3 or 4!

Can you relate to this imagery? Does your soul hunger and thirst for God like this? For reading His Word? For spending time in Prayer? For gathering with Believers to Worship and Praise Him? That is why this Psalm, and others like it, were written! They show us what normal Christianity is like. May we all become like this Deer!!!
