“One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to meditate in His temple.” Psalm 27:4
Just as each Psalm is Unique, sometimes each paragraph or “stanza” is as well. In Psalm 27, David begins with a Bold Declaration of Who and What God is to him. He says He “is my light and my salvation” and “the defense of my life” and then describes his complete trust in Him for Victory. Then he shifts gears with the next paragraph, which opens with Today’s Verse, and David reveals a completely different thought to us. He has told us about his Complete Trust, now he tells us of his Complete Love.
We are told in 1st Samuel that David was a man after God’s own Heart. Here is part of why that was true. He had a Single-Eyed Devotion to God that was unparalleled. “One Thing” he says he has “asked from the Lord”, Just One! David had Power; he was King! David had Wealth; much! But he really only wanted One Thing; GOD!!!
As the early Church began, Jesus summoned His Disciples one day and began instructing them. One of His Precepts was very similar to David’s. “Seek First the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness”! Such a simple concept; any child can grasp it. Yet, how Illusive!!! May God help us to be more life David in this regard!
