Read Psalm 120-123

“I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.”” Psalm 122:1

As I’ve mentioned in the past, the 15 Psalms after Psalm 119 are called the Songs of Ascent. Many regard these as songs sung by travelers to the Feasts in Jerusalem. This one, by King David, fits in quite well. It conveys delight in getting to go to the Tabernacle in order to worship Jehovah. For most Jews, this meant extensive travel, and more than likely, on foot (Nazareth to Jerusalem was 64 miles). It meant bringing the sacrifice; goats, lambs, cows, grain, oil, and wine. It was not an easy undertaking.

But notice what David says; “I was glad”. In spite of the time and effort, he delighted to do so. It was a joyful occasion! May this be a source of encouragement for us as we prepare to go to Church this Sunday, seeing we have it so much easier than they did!
