Psalm 1
By way of Introduction to the Book of Psalms, here are Spurgeon’s Comments at the beginning of his Treasury of David: “The delightful study of the Psalms has yielded me boundless profit and ever-growing pleasure; common gratitude constrains me to communicate to others a portion of the benefit, with the prayer that it may induce them to search further for themselves”. In a much smaller way, I want to convey the same sentiment!
As I began the Psalms today, a journey I have taken so many times, I was struck once again by the simplicity and profundity of Psalm 1. Years ago, I had this Psalm on a large poster in the Christian Bookstore I ran. I saw it almost every day. It was one that I memorized and always had in the forefront of my mind. It’s as if it challenged me – Do you want to be Blessed? Do you want to Prosper? Then here’s how to do it. Do not be around the ungodly, AND, meditate on the Word of God!
Simple enough, right? But do we do this? How often do we get caught up in this World and this Life and join forces with the Wicked? How often do we go through a day without thinking of what we’ve read in the Bible? We’re all guilty, aren’t we? So, are we Blessed? Are we Prosperous? May we take this Simple Psalm and begin to live it!!!
