“Do not fret because of evildoers or be envious of the wicked; For there will be no future for the evil man; The lamp of the wicked will be put out.” Proverbs 24:19-20
Here, Solomon warns “Do not fret”, using the word charah (“to burn,” “to be angry;” so here we may render, “Be not enraged on account of evil doers.” Pulpit Commentary). Also, “do not envy”. Both are typical reactions; anger, bitterness, or rage, because they “get away” with so much; or, a desire to be “like” them, because they “have” so much. But he also provides the answer; “there will be no future for them” and “their lamp will be put out”. Both indicate death and judgement.
For us, the same holds true. Don’t Fret about, and Don’t Envy, “sinners”! Their End is certain and they will stand before their Creator on Judgement Day. Not pleasant, but it should help deter us!
