“A man’s discretion makes him slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook a transgression.” Proverbs 19:11
When a Man is devoted to Wisdom, everything becomes subject to it, especially his emotions. We all know what it is to become angry. Here, Solomon points us in the direction we need to go to harness it. Discretion! The Wise Man takes time to weigh out and consider a situation before he allows his emotions to dictate. When he is committed to this, he allows God’s Word to rule his life, not himself.
Also, as an encouragement, he reminds us that it is for our “glory” when we do so. Someone sins against us and we are tempted to react in anger; discretion kicks in and we slow down the reaction. We then “decide” to forgive and overlook the “wrong”, which becomes our “glory”!
