“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man is he who listens to counsel.” Proverbs 12:15
As I’ve mentioned before, Proverbs is a Book of contrasts. It pits good against evil, diligence against laziness, and here, a Fool against a Wise Man. The phrase, “right in his own eyes”, is mentioned several times in the Bible, with severe judgement associated with it. Here, Solomon uses it to describe the Fool and contrasts with a “wise man” listening to counsel. Notice as well, a contrast of Pride against Humility. The Fool, proud and arrogant, knows his “Way” is the right way. The Wise Man, humble and contrite, does not, so he seeks counsel.
So, let me ask the question. Which of these describes our Culture? If there was ever a time where our generation is one of Fools, it’s today. May God’s Counsel deliver us from being One!!!
