“But go, tell His disciples and Peter,” Mark 16:7a
We’re told on the day after the Sabbath “Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome,” “came to the tomb” to anoint the body of Jesus. As they came, they saw that the Stone they were concerned about moving, had been rolled away for them. As they entered, they were greeted by an Angel who told them that Jesus was not here, “He has risen”. He then gave them instructions with Today’s Verse. It speaks volumes.
If you remember, “Brave Peter” had promised “though all may fall away, yet I will not”, and “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!” Then after being interrogated by a Servant Girl and others, he curses and swears, “I do not know this man you are talking about!”…and then hears the rooster crow. We’re then told in Luke that “he went out and wept bitterly”. “That” Brave Peter!
Well, no doubt the Angel had that in mind when he gave the women these instructions for the Disciples…”and Peter”. But Jesus had prayed for him, “that your faith may not fail”, and was now sending His personal Emissary as a Reminder. WE, are often like Peter, so eager and willing to do so much for Jesus, and then find ourselves unable to spend just 5 minutes reading our Bibles or in much needed Prayer. May we see Jesus praying for US, as He did for Peter!
