“And He said, “Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all of them;”” Luke 21:3
In the opening of Chapter 21, we’re introduced to this story where Jesus makes an observation; “And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury”. Then we’re told, “He saw a Poor Widow putting in 2 small copper coins”. We don’t know exactly how much these were worth except they were the smallest of the Jewish Coins (from what I’ve read, 1/64th of a Denarius). The point is…it wasn’t much! But what did Jesus do? He seized the opportunity to provide some valuable insight for the Disciples. And so we have Today’s Verse!
Most of us are familiar with this story; how others gave out of their surplus, but she out of her poverty. So what lessons can we learn from this? What do we give sacrificially? How about our Time? Time in His Word, Time in Prayer, Time in Worship, Time in Fellowship? Time to share the Word and encourage other Saints? Time to share the Gospel with a lost and dying World? Time in serving other’s needs, both within the Church and without? And not out of our Abundance, BUT, where we Sacrifice “Our Time” in order to give to God, and to Others!!! May we take time to put into practice some of the Simple Truths of God’s Word!
