“They were for testing Israel, to find out if they would obey the commandments of the Lord, which He had commanded their fathers through Moses.” Judges 3:4
In Yesterday’s Reading, we saw Israel’s Disobedience; they did not drive out the Nations of Canaan as God had commanded! God in His Wisdom knew that these Nations would become a Snare to His People if they remained. That is why He commanded them to completely destroy them.
But God is All Wise, All Knowledgeable, and All Powerful. He lives outside of Time and as Isaiah records, sees the “End from the Beginning”! AND,…had a purpose even in their disobedience, as we see in Today’s Verse. He had allowed the Enemy to have a foothold in their Land to “Test Them”!!!
God does the same today. When He saves us, He conquers our heart and begins to rule and reign over us. Sin no longer is our Master. But in His wisdom, He allows some Sin to “Remain” in order to Test Us! We ALL deal with Sin to one degree or another. It either Reigns or Remains. If it still Reigns as the dominating and controlling influence in one’s life, then that person IS NOT a Christian. You may believe in God, and in Jesus; you may pray and go to Church. But you are no different than the Jews that lived in the time of the Judges. Which is true for you?
