Read Job 8-10

“If your sons sinned against Him, then He delivered them into the power of their transgression.” Job 8:4

Yesterday in my Post, we were introduced to Friend #1, Eliphaz. He was the first of Job’s Friends to speak, and though he expressed some truth, held it with a Bad Perspective. But instead of dealing with his thoughts specifically (which were overall wrong and misguided), I chose to deal with all 3 of Job’s Friends collectively.  Today, we are introduced to Friend #2, Bildad. He is a bit more insensitive with his communication, as we can see here in Chapter 8.

Consider his opening salvo: “How long will you say these things, and the words of your mouth be a mighty wind”? Not exactly what you’d expect from a Comforter. “If you are pure and upright, surely now He would rouse Himself for you.” And the Implication being…? How about Today’s Verse, “If your sons sinned against Him, then He delivered them into the power of their transgression”? This is certainly the last thing you would say to someone grieving over the loss of their children (as if Job didn’t know this?)! Yes, of course God judges sinful acts and behavior; but don’t bring that up right after their funeral!

There is an old saying that is certainly apropos here, “with friends like these, who needs enemies?”
