“The oracle concerning Babylon which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.” Isaiah 13:1
My comments today aren’t on just this verse, but what follows for the next several chapters. Here, Isaiah begins a series of Oracles against the Enemies that surrounded Israel. Included are Babylon, Moab, Damascus, Ethiopia, and Egypt. What I find interesting is God’s personal knowledge of each of these people groups; their cities, their god’s, and their culture. Though they are the enemies of God and His People, He still sustains an aspect of personal involvement in their lives.
We call this Common Grace. Even though slated for Judgement, God has a Love for all Mankind displayed by this knowledge! This is the same language used when we read the words, “For God so loved the World”. It is Common Grace, but also, it is Amazing Grace indeed!!!
