“But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.” James 1:22
Imagine growing up in a home where your oldest brother is the Son of God! Jesus was the Perfect Brother! He was a Perfect Boy, a Perfect Teenager, and finally, a Perfect Man! This is the home that James grew up in. If there was anyone that understood Jesus, it was him. He probably saw him every day. He ate with him, played with him, and worked with him. And in light of that Reality, if there was anyone that understood his own Sin, it was James.
But, he also understood Salvation. Notice in Verse 1, he calls himself a “Slave of Christ” and acknowledges “Jesus as his Lord”. And so, it’s no surprise when he makes this statement in Today’s Verse, “prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves”. And I don’t believe he does this with a “Works Righteousness” mentality. Remember, he lived with a Perfect Brother! And so, we can be assured, James had a Sober and Real view of what Salvation is all about! Once he put the pieces together regarding Christ’s Death as the Lamb of God, He “Got It”! If you want to see more, keep reading. In Chapter 2, he goes into much further detail!!!
