“Joseph then answered Pharaoh, saying, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh a favorable answer.”” Genesis 41:16
Most of us are familiar with this Story. Pharaoh is awakened twice with Shocking Dreams. The second time, he gets up and begins to seek help from his spiritual advisors. He finds none. During the commotion, the Chief Butler suddenly remembers something that occurred 2 long years ago; something he promised then to a young man in prison that had helped save his life. And thus enters Joseph into Today’s Verse as he confesses God’s part in his giftedness.
True Humility begins when we recognize that all that we have, and all that we are, comes from God. Joseph had dreams while growing up. He was familiar with that manner God had chosen to speak to him. He could have easily attributed this ability to himself; but he did not. When the Cupbearer and Baker had their dreams, what did he say? “Do not interpretations belong to God?” In the same vein, he now points Pharaoh to God.
God is the Creator of All Things; including our bodies, our brains, our talents, and our abilities. He deserves all Glory for making us the way we are and giving us any of the abilities that we have! We rob Him when we assume that we can do something, Anything, apart from Him. May God show us this reality in Jesus Words, “without me, you can do nothing”!
