“Then he brought me back to the door of the house; and behold, water was flowing from under the threshold of the house toward the east, for the house faced east. And the water was flowing down from under, from the right side of the house, from south of the altar.” Ezekiel 47:1
Here we have described the Water that flows eastward from the New Temple that Ezekiel has told us about in previous chapters. I’m always intrigued by this part. You have a “trickle” in verse 2 that begins flowing from under the Temple and toward the east. He is then told to measure the depth of the water a 1/4 mile further where the water is ankle deep. He then repeats this, measures, and it’s knee high, then waist high, and finally, too deep to cross.
Where does this water come from and how does it grow so deep? Is it run off from rain or other little streams? Is it fed by underground springs? We Don’t Know! But what we Do Know is, this is Special Water, a Living Water, that turns everything it flows to, into Fresh. It allows Trees to flourish, that always have Fruit and whose Leaves have Healing Properties. It caused Fish to multiply and create a Prosperous Livelihood for Fisherman.
Like the Temple, this is a description of something that has not yet been. Is it Heaven? Or will we see this on Earth? Or, is it a Glimpse of the Power and Creativity of God meant to encourage and help us? As I’ve said before, I Don’t Know! But This God…is the One that we Walk with and Worship each day. May He fill your day with this kind of Wonder!!!
