“therefore thus says the Lord God, ‘Behold, I am against you, O Tyre, and I will bring up many nations against you, as the sea brings up its waves.” Ezekiel 26:3
In Ezekiel 25, God begins to list His Judgements against the Nations surrounding Israel; Ammon, Moab, Edom, and Philistia. They are all fairly short. But here in 26, He begins 3 long chapters about their northern neighbor Tyre. In it, God describes, not a country devoted to war and destruction; nor given to Idol worship; but given wholeheartedly to Sale and Commerce. In essence; to the God of Money and Success. And they were very Good at it!
Now don’t get me wrong, this isn’t why God brought Judgement on them. There is nothing wrong with Capitalism! God’s Wrath fell on them because they did not Honor God for all that He enabled them to do. Though they did not have direct revelation about Him, they did have it through their southern neighbor Israel; and they ignored it to their peril!
In so many ways, I see the United States today…Just.Like.Them!!! It is scary how similar. Thus, the warning is clear; America needs to Repent of their Self Sufficiency and Success, and give Honor and Glory to God who gave it. We need to “Repent, and believe the Gospel”!
