“Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend.” Exodus 33:11
Once again, we are introduced to an amazing story about the Israelites Journey. Today we read, “Moses used to take the tent and pitch it outside the camp, a good distance from the camp, and he called it the tent of meeting. And everyone who sought the Lord would go out to the tent of meeting which was outside the camp.” As the Jews followed the Cloud when it left the Tabernacle, and set up camp when it stopped, Moses too, would pitch “this Tent” at the new location. This “Tent of Meeting”, as it was called, would be set up “outside the camp” and at a “good distance”. We’re not sure if this had some measure of “privacy” associated with it, but as we are introduced to it by Today’s Verse, Moses certainly enjoyed the Special Privilege of talking with God “face to face” once he entered and the Cloud descended outside the door.
We’re also told that “whenever Moses went out to the tent, that all the people would arise and stand, each at the entrance of his tent, and gaze after Moses until he entered the tent”. It must have been some Spectacle to see! The God that Terrified the People at Mount Sinai descending in Fire and Smoke, would now Visibly follow Moses in that Pillar to the Tent of Meeting and speak to their Leader.
For the Christian, we have this opportunity every day! Whenever we open our Bibles to read, we are just like Moses entering that Tent of Meeting and hearing God speak. When we take time to pray, we respond, just as Moses must have responded to God. We may not see a Physical Cloud like Moses did, but with the Eyes of Faith we can be assured that it is no different for us. May this encourage our hearts to seek God in our own Tent of Meeting today!
I am thankful to read your good thoughts again. Thank you for sharing.
