“So Daniel was taken up out of the den and no injury whatever was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.” Daniel 6:23b
Ah yes, Daniel and the Lions Den! We’re all familiar with the story. We’ve heard it in Sunday School, read it to our children, and even heard a Sermon or two about it. The enemies of Daniel, those other high ranking government officials, filled with jealousy and envy; looking for career advancement and willing to do anything it takes to achieve it (sounds like today, doesn’t it?); “could find no ground of accusation or evidence of corruption” against him. So they went after his Faith and reasoned, “unless we find it against him with regard to the law of his God”. And so, as the Tale is told, he’s tossed into a Den of starving lions to finish him off, but God intervenes and “sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths”.
But “Why” did God shut those lions mouths? Oh sure, he needed Daniel alive; he still had Dreams and Visions to see, so He had to! Yes, that’s true. But is that all? In Today’s Verse we’re told Why; “because he had trusted in his God”. Please don’t miss that. The writer of Hebrews tells us “without Faith it is impossible to please God”! Here is that Verse in action. Oh, may God increase our Faith and make us more like Daniel!!!
