“Then Amos replied to Amaziah, “I am not a prophet, nor am I the son of a prophet; for I am a herdsman and a grower of sycamore figs.” Amos 7:14
Amos is upbraided by Amaziah the priest for prophesying of Israel’s doom and judgement. Here is his reply, and one that we can learn from. You, like Amos, may see yourself primarily as a factory worker, architect, engineer, housewife, student, or whatever He has given your hands to do. But He has also called you to be a Witness for Christ. Peter told us, “to always be ready to make a defense”. Amos did not see himself as a Prophet, but he did speak when God called Him to. In the same way, we need to be ready to share the Gospel when He opens the door. May God give us the boldness and the confidence to do so when that time comes!
