“For behold, He who forms mountains and creates the wind and declares to man what are His thoughts, He who makes dawn into darkness and treads on the high places of the earth, the Lord God of hosts is His name.” Amos 4:13
Several times in this Book, Amos draws upon the “Theme” of God’s Almighty power, and then in Today’s Verse, reminds his readers, “the LORD God of Hosts is His name”! He was living during a time of widespread Apostasy, where both Israel and Judah would go into captivity for this Sin. So, it’s not surprising that he reminds them of Jehovah, “who forms mountains, creates wind, knows man’s thoughts, and makes dawn into darkness”. In Chapters 5 and 9 he continues this same theme. And yet, with this Almighty Powerful God as their Creator, Protector, and Father, they would give it all away for a Fake Substitute. What a Tragic Shame!!!
But here we are today, with the same God, the same Power, the same Fatherly Care, and we choose to look to the gods of Entertainment, Money, and Pleasure, instead! Does that make any sense? So should we be surprised when we see God’s Hand of Judgement coming upon us and our Nation? No, it should not! We should actually expect it!!!
May God open our eyes, and the eyes of our Countrymen, and bring us Revival!
