Read 2 Samuel 12-13

“Then the Lord sent Nathan to David.” 2 Samuel 12:1a

Yesterday, we read of David’s Unbelievable Wickedness; how neglecting his Military Role in fighting the Lord’s Battles, he found himself sleepless one night and ascends to his rooftop to perhaps cool off. And what does he see? A Beautiful Woman taking a bath. He Lusts, commits Adultery, then has her husband, one of his top Soldiers, Murdered. Then, in an attempt to cover it up, he Marries her. Now,…nobody will know! Or will they?

Everything we think, say, and do, is known to God, no matter how carefully we may try to hide it. We’re told that He knows The End from The Beginning. Nothing is hidden from Him! The Prophet Nathan reveals this. David was guilty of Adultery and Murder by proxy, and had gone to extraordinary lengths to cover it. But Nathan exposes him. Had it been anyone else, he might have gotten away with it. But He Was God’s!!! He was God’s Child and He would not tolerate this kind of behavior!

In the Book of Hebrews, Chapter 12, we’re asked rhetorically, “what son is there whom his father does not discipline”? How would you answer that? Well today, who knows? But back then, the answer would be NONE! Then the Author goes on, and “if you are without discipline,…then you are illegitimate children and not sons.” Do you see his point? A Child who did not get Disciplined, was not actually “his Child”. He was an “Illegitimate Child”, and therefore, not the Son of that Father. The Point? God Always Disciplines His Children; ALWAYS!!! Like David! If we don’t get Disciplined when we Sin, We Are Not His Child! Oh God, send us our Nathan’s. The alternative is too hard to bear!
