“Now again the anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and it incited David against them to say, “Go, number Israel and Judah.”” 2 Samuel 24:1
Well, well, it seems like I was just writing about “some things hard to understand“. Here is another passage that fits into that category. However, I think I might have a bit more insight into this one! Today’s Verse is how the Chapter begins. Notice with me, we are told that “the anger of the Lord burned” and “IT” incited David. Not David, but “God’s Anger”. To complicate things, we have a Parallel version of this Story in 1 Chronicles 21. There we read “Then Satan stood up against Israel and moved David to number Israel”. So which is it, “God’s Anger” or Satan? How about Both?
Remember, God uses Means, and though God is Angry, James tells us that “He Himself does not tempt anyone.” That is where the Passage from 1 Chronicles comes in. God employs Satan in this Plan. He, the Devil, is the Agent God uses to Influence David’s Heart to Disobey God. So, God is Angry with His People and wants to bring Judgement down upon them, using King David in the process, and because “He Himself does not tempt anyone”, uses Satan to “move” David to that end. Again, this helps fill in some of the Details, but I still don’t grasp the Entirety of the Story.
In Conclusion, there are many things about God that we do not yet fathom or understand. One Day we will, but until then, let us just cover our mouths and worship!
