“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
As we know, the Church in Corinth was a troubled one. If you’ve read through the first letter from Paul you are Very well aware of that reality. But they “were” a Church and were filled with God’s People, albeit very immature and imperfect. Today’s Verse could be a summation of where the root of all their problems “were”! They were, in many ways, still “land-locked” to a former Pattern or Lifestyle. That is why This Verse is such a crucial one! IT was a Wake Up Call and Reminder of Who and What the Corinthians were!
Most of today’s Christians are familiar with this verse, at least mentally. We know it, we quote it, we believe it. But how many of us see it as a Reality in our lives? Are we a New Creature? Have the Old Things passed away. So many today believe that becoming a Christian is no more than a verbal ascent to Jesus’ existence; to raise a hand, to walk an aisle, to pray a prayer. How would Paul view current Christianity? In light of this verse, not very well! Without this kind of transformation of heart and behavior, there can be No Credible Confession!!! Oh,…may God send Revival and Awaken many today!
