Read 2 Chronicles 21-23

“He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab did (for Ahab’s daughter was his wife), and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.” 2 Chronicles 21:6

As I mentioned yesterday, King Jehoshaphat, as faithful as he was, sinned by aligning himself with King Ahab. He had taken the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel for his son in this alliance and now, years later, it was taking its toll on the Country. Though I’m sure Jehoshaphat had done his best to instill the virtues he imbibed into the life of his son Jehoram, the influence of his wife would become the predominate force.

Right out of the Gate we read “when Jehoram had taken over the kingdom of his father and made himself secure, he killed all his brothers with the sword, and some of the rulers of Israel also.” Where did that come from? His Dad? His Dad’s Counselors? I don’t think so. His Wife’s Influence was now on the Throne! His heart had turned from following God to Idolatry and plunged his entire nation into Sin.

Parents beware! Who your children marry matters. Do not think that their good morals will be prevalent. It is the opposite. Paul warned the Church at Corinth, “Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.””
