“For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” 1 Timothy 6:10
In Chapter 6, Paul is drawing his Letter to Timothy to a close. He begins stressing the importance of the Doctrine he had taught in the Churches, how it conformed “to godliness”, and how some had perverted this aspect and sought after “financial gain” through it. That is where Today’s Verse comes in and how those wanting to “get rich” may fall into its snare, and eventually into “ruin and destruction”.
The King James Version reads, “the love of money is THE root of ALL evil” (emphasis mine) and there is debate among some which is more accurate. I think whichever way you view it, Loving Money is something to be avoided! Jesus said, “you Cannot serve God AND Money” and here Paul warns Timothy of its seriousness by stating “some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith”! Putting this in perspective, he says earlier “If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content.” This may be a far cry from how we might view “loving money”. May God open our eyes to where our Real Treasure lies; Here or in Heaven!!!
