“But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully,” 1 Timothy 1:8
As Paul begins his Letter to Timothy, his “true child in the faith”, he reminds him of his mission; to “remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines”. Part of the problem at Ephesus were these individuals “wanting to be teachers of the Law” but not really understanding what they were doing. They thought they did, but they did not. That is where Today’s Verse comes in and Paul’s bold Proclamation – THE LAW IS GOOD!!!
Well, the Church of today has missed this verse; not because it uses the Law unlawfully, but because it doesn’t use it at all! What comes to mind when I read this is what Paul said to the Romans, “through the Law comes the knowledge of sin”. Since Jesus came to Save Sinners from Sin, and that the Law (used lawfully) is to reveal the Sinner’s Sin, is it any surprise that Repentance is also missing? The Gospel of today is nothing more than a Panacea of how Jesus can be what is missing in our life. It is true, that He is Everything that we will need! But until He Saves us from our SINS and becomes our LORD and MASTER, He can be none of those things!!!
