“Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.” 1 Corinthians 6:11
Corinth was a very wicked city; one that in many ways seems to be the model for our Generation! Here in Chapter 6, Paul outlines the lifestyles that characterized its citizens in Verses 9-10; Fornicators, Idolaters, Adulterers, Effeminate, Homosexuals, Thieves, Covetous, Drunkards, Revilers, and Swindlers. Amazingly, this is how Paul describes “some” of the Very Members of that Church in Corinth!
In many ways, Corinth reflects our Culture and our Church. We live in a rapidly declining Moral Society; perhaps not where Corinth is at, but it’s headed that way. And so is the Church. It is made up of those that God rescues from the World around it, and that includes those of Wicked Lifestyles. But notice the all important word “were”. At one time, this is what they “were”; but no longer. Paul continues with why this is true; you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified. He also warns the Church, that those that continue in this lifestyle “will not inherit the kingdom of God” and amplifies the warning by saying “Do not be deceived!” May we be on the same page as Paul!
