“The sons of Ulam were mighty men of valor, archers, and had many sons and grandsons, 150 of them. All these were of the sons of Benjamin.” 1 Chronicles 8:40
As I mentioned yesterday, 1st Chronicles has a lot of names; LOTS of Names! Most of you know I read through the Bible every year. In fact, that’s the whole purpose of this Blog. To encourage those that read these Posts to do the same! Well, I’ve read through the Bible now about 45 times, and each time I do, I still read through (not skip) sections like this. And believe it or not, I still find things I haven’t seen before; like this Verse from today.
Here we have a man called Ulam, a Benjamite, who raised his sons to be warriors. They were Mighty Men of Valor, primarily Archers. As a warring Nation, commissioned by God to conquer the Land of Canaan, this was a good thing. They were also surrounded by Nations that wanted to do the same thing to Israel; to conquer them and their Land. He also had “many sons and grandsons, 150 of them”! I’m sure most of them served in the Army.
What’s my Point? Ulam is remembered for his sons, and the positive impact they had on making their Nation great. Yes, they were Men of War, and that certainly was part of their Culture back then. But the Point is, his Parenting had a Huge Impact on their Nation and its Future. May we Fathers try to do the same today!
