Read 1 Chronicles 1-4

Now these were the sons of David who were born to him in Hebron: the firstborn was Amnon, by Ahinoam the Jezreelitess; the second was Daniel, by Abigail the Carmelitess;” 1 Chronicles 3:1

As we transition from Kings to Chronicles, you’ll notice many similarities between the two Books. Much of the same material is in both. But also, you’ll notice the differences; sometimes the same Story will be told in just a different manner or with different information. But the Main Difference is the Names; Lots of them! If you’ve waded through the first couple of Chapters today, you know what I’m talking about.

And, upon reflecting on all those Names, consider my thoughts on Today’s Verse. The writer opens the Chapter with the lineage of King David. Notice here, the 2nd son of David, Daniel, born to Abigail. Now we know who Abigail was; the Widow of Nabal who would not share his Bounty with David’s men. But Daniel? This is the only reference of him in the entire Bible! We do read quite a bit about Amnon, David’s 1st born, Absalom, his 3rd, and Adonijah, his 4th. This Royal Son, the 2nd in line after Amnon, is never mentioned again. I find this absolutely fascinating!

To be fair, there may have been extenuating circumstances as to why this is true. He may have died in his youth. He may have been mentally challenged. These are just speculations. But the fact remains; God chose to not reveal more information about him! This reminds me of a line from one of my favorite Hymns; “Content to fill a little space, if thou be glorified”. This epitomizes what every one of us should really see. That it is CHRIST that is important, and not us!!!
