How Do You React to Pulpit Supply?

The picture you see with this Post is Charles Spurgeon preaching. As you can see, it’s a Very Large Crowd. He did that often during his lifetime; sometimes to as many as 23,000 when he preached at the Crystal Palace in London. But it wasn’t always like that. At one time, he was young and unknown, and spoke to just a handful of people at the small Baptist Church in Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire. Those dear people had no idea who was addressing them that Sunday morning. But in time, they would. The point is, every great Preacher starts off like this. And, it would be wrong for them not to.

So, knowing now what you do, how would you react to a Young and Inexperienced Charles Spurgeon. Since hindsight is 20/20, I’m sure you would be overjoyed to have that young man fill your pulpit for awhile. But that’s just the thing; we don’t know. We need to consider that when the next time we have someone filling our pulpits. Just like Hebrews tells us to consider strangers especially carefully, “some have entertained Angels unaware”!

A Very Young Spurgeon
