“The advice of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was as if one inquired of the word of God;” 2 Samuel 16:23 As we read through the Old Testament Stories, we are introduced to that Individual know as “Counselor”. We don’t know if it was an official position among the King’s Cabinet, if every

“Then the Lord sent Nathan to David.” 2 Samuel 12:1a Yesterday, we read of David’s Unbelievable Wickedness; how neglecting his Military Role in fighting the Lord’s Battles, he found himself sleepless one night and ascends to his rooftop to perhaps cool off. And what does he see? A Beautiful Woman taking a bath. He Lusts,

“Now in the morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it by the hand of Uriah.” 2 Samuel 11:14 This part of the Bible is always a difficult one for me. At the beginning of the Chapter we read, “Then it happened in the spring, at the time when kings go out to

“And the anger of the Lord burned against Uzzah, and God struck him down there for his irreverence; and he died there by the ark of God.” 2 Samuel 6:7 In 1st Samuel, we’re told the Story about the Jews taking the Ark into battle against the Philistines, God’s judgement against them while possessing it,

“Then David said to him, “How is it you were not afraid to stretch out your hand to destroy the Lord’s anointed?”” 2 Samuel 1:14 As the Book of 2nd Samuel opens, the story of Saul’s death comes to David via an unfortunate Amalekite. “But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.” 1 Samuel 30:6 The Backdrop to Today’s Story: The Philistines were gathering to Aphek for an offensive against Israel. David and his men had taken up lodging in the city of Ziklag, which was under the Rule of Achish, King of Gath, who was a Philistine.

“David said to his men, “Each of you gird on his sword.”” 1 Samuel 25:13a When reading Today’s Story, I am reminded of a Great Danger; that of emulating Bible Character Behavior. Now don’t get me wrong, there are many Bible Characters we can learn much from; Abraham’s Faith, Moses’ Patience, Joshua’s Courage. But each

“So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines?” 1 Samuel 23:2a David and his army were fugitives on the run from King Saul. They were constantly moving from place to place seeking safety and refuge. Then word came to David that the city of Keilah was under attack. At

“Then Saul became very angry, for this saying displeased him;” 1 Samuel 18:8a If you remember, the Sad Story of Israel at this time was their ongoing capitulation between the Worship of Jehovah and their forsaking Him for Idols. God establishes a Judge who brings about Victory and a return to God. When that Judge

“for the battle is the Lord’s and He will give you into our hands.” 1 Samuel 17:47b Of all the stories in the Bible, David and Goliath is probably the one most people know and love. Even as a child growing up in a non-Christian home, and where the Bible was never read, I knew
