A Christmas Sermon on Isaiah 9:6
“For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (ESV)
Do you ever doubt or forget your experiences of God? In this sermon, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones shows us that the reason for our doubting is because experiences are not meant to last. Instead of this, we must truly know the character of Jesus Christ; if we do this, we will never doubt our standing before God. Isaiah 9:6 teaches us the true character of Christ. Isaiah describes Jesus as Mighty God, Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace, Everlasting Father. Dr. Lloyd-Jones unfolds these attributes to show us what we must truly believe and place our hope in. Jesus washes away our sin because we are unable. Christ is available to counsel us in every moment of need; he is the author of eternal life!
