“And it will come about in the last days that the mountain of the house of the Lord will be established as the chief of the mountains. It will be raised above the hills, and the peoples will stream to it.” Micah 4:1
In the midst of Micah’s proclamation of Doom and Judgement, he gives this promise of future blessing and revival. Picture, if you will, God’s People, all “streaming” to Jerusalem, the Great City of God; and it being so important, that even the mountain that it sits upon is elevated in prominence. And not just the Jews in this throng, but “the peoples”, the Gentiles, are with them. Look at Verse 2, “Many nations will come and say, “Come and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord. What a Glorious Picture of the New Covenant, where Jew and Gentile alike ascend the Mountain of the Lord in order to worship.
Rather than focus on the eschatological meaning here, and have various differing views, let me just add one comment in which we can all agree on. Why were they going? “That He may teach us about His ways and that we may walk in His paths.” That is the Heart and Soul of the Gospel. That is why God has saved a People! May that be our focus today, and all the days ahead, as we make our way to the Heavenly Jerusalem!!!
