“She who was a princess among the provinces has become a forced laborer!” Lamentations 1:1b
As Jeremiah begins Lamentations, he does so with a vivid contrast of a “princess” and a “forced laborer”. If you consider that during Bible times there was no middle class (you were either wealthy or poor) this contrast takes on much more significance. But today’s verse goes further; it compares the top, to the bottom; Royalty, to Slavery. Jerusalem, who was once the Princess of the Nations, has now become a Slave to them!
The Lesson is a stark reminder to Nations, Churches, and People, that our Blessings and Prosperity all originates with God. God gives, and takes away, as we Walk in accord, or contrary, to His Word! Jesus tells a story of 2 House Builders. The difference is summed up with these Words; “ACTS ON THEM”! They both heard, they both built; but Blessing and Disaster hinged on those 3 Words.
