“All mankind is stupid, devoid of knowledge;” Jeremiah 51:17a
In Today’s Chapter, God is describing His creating and controlling power over all things, then makes this statement about Mankind. He does this as He sees Man resorting to the creation of Idols and Images, and then trusting in them for help and deliverance; all of this in the context of using Babylon as His Weapon of War to Shatter His enemies.
Though we do not live in a time where Idols and Images (for the most part) are an alternative to God and His Worship, there does exist something nonetheless! Today’s Idolatry is comprised of our devotion to Sports, Entertainment, and anything else that consumes our Time, Money, and Energy. Today’s god is simply Ourselves, and our ever indulgent absorption in the unholy trinity of Me, Myself, and I!!! Rightly did Jeremiah describe our Culture in Today’s Verse. May God wake us up to see this and Repent!
